Departure Corinth Canal: late evening
Surrounded by dry mountains and a truly beautiful coast, the lovely town of Galaxidi stands proudly in the Gulf of Corinth on Krisaikos Bay. You will love the true character of this well-kept town, featuring paved streets lined with old neo-classical homes from its naval past and grand churches. One symbol of the town is the church of Agios Nikolaos (Saint Nicholas). This Byzantine-style building rises above the town, showing off two bell towers and a huge dome. Galaxidi also serves as the perfect starting point for a short trip to the famous ancient ruins of Delphi, located just a quick drive away in the mountains. Later in the evening, the ship begins Crossing the Corinth Canal. The Corinth Canal cuts through the land, turning the Peloponnese into an island by separating it from the Greek mainland. Opened in 1893, the canal is just over six kilometers long and helps ships avoid a long 400-kilometer trip around the area. The walls on both sides of the canal are about fifty meters high. From the outside decks, you have a rare chance to watch the ship sail through the narrow waterway between tall, colorful cliffs. It is a truly remarkable sight!
