Sailing Among the Greek Islands

Small ship cruises in Greece offer a more personal and enriching way to explore the country’s famous coastline. From the Cyclades to the quieter corners of the Dodecanese and Ionian Islands, each journey combines cultural landmarks with the relaxed charm of the islands. Our itineraries include iconic stops like Santorini and Mykonos as well as lesser-known gems such as Amorgos, Patmos, and Syros. You can explore ancient temples, wander quiet harbors, or enjoy local cuisine in scenic seaside towns. Some cruises even link Athens with Istanbul or Venice, adding a unique cross-cultural dimension. Because our ships access small ports that larger vessels cannot reach, you’ll discover the Greek coast in a slower and more authentic way. These cruises are ideal for travelers who want to experience Greece island by island, with time to appreciate each destination along the way.

Every ship provides the right mix of comfort and character for a smooth and rewarding cruise through  Greece by sea. See all the ships we feature on Greek island cruises and choose the ship that fits your travel preferences.

Getting On Board: Cruise Ports Near Athens

All our small ship cruises start or end in Athens, a world-famous city rich in ancient history and modern energy. Cruises do not depart from the city itself but from nearby ports along the coast. The most common starting point is Piraeus, Athens’ historic harbor and one of the busiest passenger ports in Europe. Some cruises depart from Marina Zeas, located near the center of Piraeus, while others use the port of Lavrion, approximately 60 kilometers from central Athens. For cruises beginning or ending in Lavrion, a free transfer to or from Athens is always included. With frequent international flights and endless sightseeing opportunities, Athens is the perfect place to begin or end your cruise.

Travel Tips for Greece Cruises & FAQ

Small ship cruises are intimate, offering a more personal experience with fewer passengers. The itineraries focus on visiting smaller, less crowded ports and islands, allowing you to discover places large cruise ships can’t reach. Personalized service and cultural immersion are at the heart of these cruises. We also feature a fleet of larger, luxury vessels such as the Emerald, offering between 100 and 250 cabins. These ships deliver boutique-style elegance with upscale amenities, combining the personalized service and ambiance of smaller yachts with added space and comfort. In short, small-ship cruising brings genuine hospitality, direct access to hidden ports, and immersive cultural experiences.

After breakfast, the ship usually sails to a new destination, with a swim stop along the way. Lunch is served onboard, followed by more swimming or arriving at the next port. Passengers often enjoy guided tours of the destination or can explore on their own before returning to the ship for a relaxed evening.

All of our Greek cruises start and end in either Piraeus, Marina Zeas, or Lavrion, all of which are conveniently located near Athens. Piraeus and Marina Zeas are closer to the city center, while Lavrion offers easy access to the airport and nearby islands. All ports provide excellent facilities for embarking on your Greek cruise adventure.

The best months for Greek cruises are May, June, September, and October. The weather is pleasant, and the crowds are smaller, especially at popular islands like Santorini and Mykonos.
